Emergency Medical Technician

Course Description

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) are trained to assess and treat patients at the basic level. EMT's learn to utilize an array of different equipment to assess, treat, and prevent further injuries. EMT's learn about different drugs such as oxygen, activated charcoal, nitroglycerin, aspirin, albuterol, epinephrine, and glucose. They learn a variety of ways to immobolize different bones in the body. There is a required clinical component to the class, in which all students ride with an ambulance service for a set amount of hours as well as a minimum number of patient contacts. This amount is determined by the lead instructor and must comply with the guidelines set forth by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS). Upon successful completion of our EMT program, students will be eligible to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), which is the examination required for state EMT certification.
